WHAT IS IT?

Malaria, also known locally as paludismo or tercianaria, is a disease transmitted by female Anopheles mosquitoes. These mosquitoes carry the plasmodium parasite in their saliva, which makes us sick when we become infected.

HOW IS IT TRANSMITTED?
A female mosquito bites a person infected with the malaria parasite. This insect then bites another healthy individual, injecting the parasite into their bloodstream. Unlike other mosquitoes, this mosquito bows or "curtsies" when it bites. Another form of transmission is fetal transmission, meaning the mother can infect her baby during pregnancy.
